Connolly’s Resurrected as Doherty’s

Story and photo by Hal Goodtree.

Cary, NC – Back in January, we reported that Connolly’s, a favorite neighborhood pub at the corner of Davis and High House, closed for business. Now, it’s planning to reopen this fall as Doherty’s.

Connolly’s Resurrected as Doherty’s

Connolly’s had a long history as a family-friendly neighborhood pub with an Irish twist – fish and chips and Irish Stew held places of honor alongside more typical burgers and salads.

St. Patrick’s Day was always a big deal at Connolly’s and it was the only place on the west side of Cary that had live bands on a regular basis. I played there many times between 2006 and 2011 in various musical groups. Connolly’s always drew a neighborhood-y crowd, full of friends and familiar faces. One summer night, we packed the house so completely there were 75-100 people outside the bar.

Looking Ahead

Right now, we know two things about the plans for Doherty’s:

New Name. New Look. New Menu. Old Friends.

That’s their current motto. Also, Doherty’s has converted Connolly’s Facebook page so you can subscribe if you’d like to get the latest news:

Facebook.com/Doherty’s

Based on the amount of lamentation that accompanied the closure of Connolly’s, Doherty’s should experience a warm welcome. Maybe they’ll book my current band, A Fifth of Blues, if they decide to continue the tradition of live music.

No word yet on an exact opening date. We’ll keep you informed.

We were lucky enough to be invited to the restaurants practice run. The place looks awesome and the food is wonderful. By far my new favorite place to eat in Cary.
