Food: Date Night At Maximillian’s

Cary, NC – A wonderful date begins with my finely dressed husband and reservations at one of our favorite Cary restaurants.  Maximillian’s has been open since 2001.  Chef/Owner Michael Schiffer has created an award winning menu full of unique flavors with a Cajun flair. The dining room is dimly lit with large framed colorful French liquor posters on the walls. Music from the 30’s & 40’s play soulfully in the background.

On this night we perused the changing menu and began with a Lobster Tempura roll served with a ginger chili sauce.  A great beginning to a wonderful meal.  The lobster was light and delicious and went perfectly with a little heat from the sauce.Maxlobtempura

Une salade was a wonderful warm hazelnut crusted goat cheese salad with mixed greens,  Granny Smith apples, sugar cured onions, grilled basil crostini with a lemon vinaigrette, that I am dreaming of right this minute…mmmm.  Salad perfection.

For our entrees, I chose the Pan Seared Diver Scallops served over baby shrimp risotto with oven dried tomatoes and covered in a white wine, roasted garlic oreganato sauce.  The scallops melted in my mouth and was amazing with the the rich flavors of the risotto, tomatoes and wine sauce. In contrast my husband had the Korean BBQ Beef that was marinated with sweet and spicy ginger and chilies served over mint and basil Asian greens, sticky rice and covered with a ginger-orange sauce and roasted peanuts.  A pow-pow of flavors.

For desert?  No room.  But I have been dying to try their coconut cake.

On the way out we saw our neighbors Jill & Joe having dinner with out-of-town guests.  If you are looking for a great “date night” spot or want to impress visitors, you must try Maximillian’s.  But make a reservation and come hungry.  I promise,  you will want to try everything!
