Morrisville, NC — Park West Village continues to add to their retail and restaurant line-up. The latest addition will be Blackfinn Ameripub, located on the corner, facing Stone Theater.Blackfinn is a 6-year-old small chain of American sit-down, casual dining establishments. The company currently operates ten restaurants in Charlotte, Texas, Florida, Michigan, Illinois and the DC area, with plans to expand.

CaryCitizen met with Blackfinn regional partner Gregg McConnell, who is based in a Charlotte restaurant and is currently working in Morrisville hiring and training future staff while overseeing the up fit of the new location. McConnell stated that Blackfinn is “a modernized version of the classic American pub.”

Ambience

The interior of the new restaurant will be able to seat upwards of 250 customers, between three seating areas. One third of the restaurant is a large, open pub, which sports bar that has 50 beers (twelve from NC) on tap. The bar has two signature cocktails on tap: the Morrisville Mule and the Blackfinn Ice Tea, which includes Kettle One.

The decor includes large wooden pub height tables and stools and two impressive 90″ flat screen TVs hanging from the ceiling. Although dwarfed in comparison, there are several other 65″ and 50″ screens spaced around the room. The restaurant expects a great deal of game day viewing and is committing to making that come true.

The other side of the restaurant features cozy booths and tables with not as much emphasis on sports TV.  Outside at the front, and wrapping around the side, is a large, covered outdoor seating area that will hold as many as 60.

With such a large establishment, there is a large staff. Gregg’s team has hired as many as 80 new employees to cover the long hours they will be open.

Blackfinn Menu Selection

The menu of American fare rounds out with some heavy starters and hearty salads, along with a selection of burgers and simple seafood dishes that are sure to be crowd pleasers.

Fish Tacos, The Queen City Chicken, the Blackfinn wrap are among Gregg’s favorites. He claims they are known for their crab cakes, crowned with lump crab meat. While most prices average around $14.99, there are twenty menu items at lunchtime for under $10, including a mix and match soup salad and flatbread for only $8.99.

Open Til Late

The restaurant will serve lunch and dinner on weekdays and brunch on Saturday and Sunday (different menu). They will open at 11:00 am and stay open late with dinner and the bar til 2:00am everyday.

A grand opening is planned for September 4th and some soft openings earlier. When I was there, they were putting the finishing touches on their inspection check list. All they needed was the wait staff and the food.

Check them out after September 4, at the  Village Market Place, in Morrisville, right across from the movie theater at the back of the shopping center.
