EJs – Home Cooking Like Grandma Used to Make
“I’m the oldest of eight children,” EJ told me, “and I was raised by my Grandma. Everything was home-cooked from scratch.”
And that’s the way it is in the new restaurant on East Chatham Street. There’s Fried Chicken, Pork Chop, Meatloaf, Chitterling, Crab Cakes, Fried Fish and Barbecue Ribs.
“You can find fast food anywhere,” EJ told me, “but home cooking’s hard to come by.”
Dinners come with two sides. There’s collards, slaw, baked beans, corn, sweet potato, mac and cheese, fried okra and fried mushrooms.
Am I making you hungry yet? How about some Sweet Potato Pie for dessert?
EJ came to Cary from Maryland. She opened EJ’s Soul Food in Cary on March 15.

We tried EJ’s today. Decor is sparse but the food is outstanding…fantastic meat loaf and the pork chop was to die for. We *will* go back, no question.
We visited last night for dinner. The food was wonderful – the mac and cheese is a meal in itself – melts in your mouth. The crab cake was great – no filler and seasoned perfectly. Will definitely go back.
First time customer here and thoroughly enjoyed my crab cakes, potato salad and fried mushrooms. A LOT of crab in the crab cakes and the sides were generous. All at my table enjoyed our first meal at EJ’s and will be back, no doubt. Service was personable. Cary has just acquired a wonderful gem in EJ’s.
Could someone please confirm their business hours for me? I brought a group of six friends from Cary, Raleigh, Durham and Clayton to the restaurant at 5PM yesterday (Thursday) for a birthday celebration dinner, only to find that the restaurant was closed. The hours on the door indicated that they should have been open. It was a very upsetting experience as we had no idea where else to go once we found the restaurant closed and so many of my friends had to drive 30-40 minutes to get there and had left work early in order to be there on time.
I tried calling the restaurant at the number listed above ((919) 481-9411) but that number is for a business in Morrisville and not the restaurant. I can’t find another number anywhere else.

The hours are:
Mondays-Wednesdays: 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
Thursday: 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Friday: 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
Saturday: Noon-9 p.m.
Sunday: Noon-5 p.m.
Very disappointing. Went in resturant at 6:00pm was not served by 7:00. This was a Saturday evening. Poor management, 2 servers for a resturant full of people. Could not order some of the things off the menu because they said they had run out of them. Ice tea was not fresh brewed made from a mix had a very artificial taste. Would not go again and would not recommend to friends. Could not comment on food since we never got what we ordered.
I went to Ej and I wrote a review about how bad it was on yeap and there was about 5 more bad reviews along with mine. I went on to write another review because I had lunch there today to find out all of the bad reviews had been deleted. Ej you don’t have to delete them, when people go there they will see your food isn’t homemade and its not good.
